Some addresses cannot be confirmed by anyone. A catch-all domain, also called accept-all, accepts every address whether or not the mailbox exists behind it. Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 return 250 OK during an SMTP conversation even for addresses that do not exist. On those domains, a positive response proves the domain is reachable, not that your contact is real. Mailthentic reports these as catch-all or unknown rather than inflating them into a valid, and it shows you the SMTP response code, the reason and a confidence score for every row so you can see how the verdict was reached and set your own risk threshold.
