Mailthentic vs NeverBounce
A NeverBounce alternative built around unique addresses and honest verdicts
NeverBounce is an established, well known email verification provider with a long track record. If you are shopping for a NeverBounce alternative, the honest question is not which brand is louder, it is which tool gives you a list you can actually send to and a bill that reflects the work done. We will not make claims about their product here. Instead, here is precisely how Mailthentic behaves, so you can compare it against whatever you are using today.
Start with the bill, not the marketing
Most real world lists are assembled from more than one place: a signup form, an event export, a CRM segment, a scraped set of contacts. That means duplicates, and duplicates are the quiet cost centre of list cleaning. Mailthentic deduplicates before processing. You are charged for unique addresses only, which means the effective cost of cleaning a list depends on the quality of the list rather than on its raw row count. Credits bought as pay as you go do not expire, and there is a monthly plan if you verify continuously.
Then look at what a verdict means
The second thing to check is what a tool calls valid. Catch-all domains, sometimes called accept-all, accept every address whether or not the mailbox exists. Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 return 250 OK during an SMTP conversation even for addresses that do not exist. On those domains, no verifier can confirm an individual mailbox, and any tool that reports one as confirmed is presenting a guess as a fact. Mailthentic reports catch-all as catch-all and unknown as unknown, and it attaches the SMTP response code, a reason and a confidence score to every row so you can see how the verdict was reached.
The rest of the stack
- Greylisting is handled, not punished. A 421, 450 or 451 is a temporary deferral, so we retry with a backoff instead of discarding a good address.
- Full detection: syntax, domain and MX, disposable domains, catch-all detection, role based flagging such as info@ and admin@, plus risky and invalid classification.
- Bulk CSV upload and an API, with your original columns preserved on export.
- CRM round trips with Brevo, HubSpot, Salesforce, Mailchimp and PlusVibe: import a list, verify it, push the clean results back.
- GDPR aligned data handling. We never sell, share or reuse your contact data.
Pricing changes on both sides, so we quote neither. Open their pricing page, open ours, and compare on the number that matters: cost per unique, usable address.
What Mailthentic does

Comparing the pricing
Verification pricing changes often, so rather than quote a number that may already be out of date, here are both pricing pages. Check them side by side.
Mailthentic
Pay as you go with credits that never expire, or a monthly plan. Duplicates in your list are removed before processing, so you are not charged for them twice.

Where NeverBounce Excels
We believe in honest comparisons. Here is where NeverBounce has advantages:
-
A well established provider that many teams already know
-
A recognisable brand with a long history in the space
-
A broad product surface beyond list cleaning
Is Mailthentic right for you?
Mailthentic is a strong fit if
- Your lists come from several sources and you suspect you are paying to verify the same address more than once.
- You need to defend a send decision internally and want the SMTP evidence for each verdict, not just a colour coded label.
- You run cold outreach where a bounce spike costs you the domain, so a false valid is far more expensive than a cautious unknown.
- Your workflow lives in a CRM and you want verification to be a round trip rather than a manual CSV shuffle.
- You verify in bursts and want credits that do not expire between campaigns.
What that looks like in practice
Upload a CSV or call the API. We deduplicate, then run the full stack: syntax, domain and MX, disposable domain detection, role based flagging, catch-all detection and SMTP probing where a meaningful answer is possible. Where the receiving server cannot give one, because it accepts everything or because it sits behind Google Workspace or Microsoft 365, we say so instead of guessing in your favour. You get valid, invalid, catch-all, risky and unknown, each with a confidence score, and you choose your own risk tolerance for the middle bands.
When another tool may suit you better
If you want a lead database, a sending platform or a full marketing suite, buy that instead. Mailthentic is a verification engine and it stays in its lane: it cleans, it explains, and it gives the list back to whatever you already send with. And if you are looking for a tool that will tell you every address in your file is deliverable, no honest verifier can do that, because mailboxes fill up, get disabled and get deleted between verification and send. What we will do is refuse to call an unconfirmable address confirmed.
Frequently asked questions
Is Mailthentic cheaper than NeverBounce?
Prices change on both sides, so we will not quote theirs or ours here. Check their current pricing on their pricing page and ours on our pricing page. The structural difference worth understanding is that we deduplicate before processing, so you are billed for unique addresses only. That means the effective cost of a clean depends on how much duplication your list carries, and duplicate heavy lists tend to be where the difference shows up.
Can I move an existing list straight over?
Yes. Export to CSV and upload it, or send addresses through the API. Your original columns are preserved on export, so the results drop straight back into your existing spreadsheet or CRM import without remapping.
Why do some addresses come back as catch-all rather than valid?
Because the receiving server accepts every address sent to it, existing or not. That is a property of the domain, not a shortcoming of the check. No verifier can confirm an individual mailbox on a catch-all domain, so we report it as catch-all with a confidence score and let you decide.
Do you have an API?
Yes, alongside bulk CSV upload. You can verify single addresses in real time, for example on a signup form, or submit a bulk job and collect the results when it finishes.
What happens to greylisted addresses?
Greylisting produces a temporary deferral, a 421, 450 or 451. It is not a rejection. We retry with a backoff so a good address does not get thrown away because a receiving server was being cautious on first contact.
Is my contact data safe with you?
Our handling is GDPR aligned. We verify your data and return it, and we never sell, share or reuse your contact data for anything else.
