Honest Comparison (2026)

Mailthentic vs Kickbox

A Kickbox alternative built to protect your sender reputation

Kickbox is an established, well known email verification provider with a long history in the market. If you are evaluating a Kickbox alternative, the underlying goal is nearly always the same: protect the domain you send from. Everything else, the dashboard, the integrations, the export format, is downstream of that. We will not comment on their product. Here is what Mailthentic does, in plain terms.

Deliverability is decided by the rows you are unsure about

Your clearly valid addresses are not the problem, and neither are the obviously invalid ones. Your bounce rate is decided by the ambiguous middle, and how a verifier chooses to label it. The two big sources of ambiguity are catch-all domains, which accept every address whether or not the mailbox exists, and mailboxes on Google Workspace or Microsoft 365, which answer 250 OK during an SMTP conversation even for addresses that do not exist. In both cases no verifier anywhere can confirm the individual mailbox. A tool can either present those as valid, which produces a lovely looking report, or it can label them honestly.

Mailthentic labels them honestly. Catch-all is reported as catch-all, unknown as unknown, and each row carries a confidence score alongside the status, the reason and the SMTP response code. That lets you set a threshold you can defend: send to everything above a confidence level you choose, hold back the rest, and know exactly what you decided and why.

The rest of the engine

  • Greylisting is retried. A 421, 450 or 451 is a temporary deferral, not a bad address, so we back off and try again.
  • Full detection stack: syntax, domain and MX, disposable domains, catch-all detection, role based flagging such as info@ and admin@, plus risky and invalid classification.
  • No charge for duplicates. We deduplicate before processing, so you pay for unique addresses only.
  • API and bulk CSV upload, with your original columns preserved on export.
  • CRM round trips with Brevo, HubSpot, Salesforce, Mailchimp and PlusVibe.
  • GDPR aligned. We never sell, share or reuse your contact data.

Pricing moves on both sides, so we quote neither. Open their pricing page, open ours, and compare on cost per unique, usable address.

Comparing the pricing

Verification pricing changes often, so rather than quote a number that may already be out of date, here are both pricing pages. Check them side by side.

Why Teams Choose Mailthentic

  • Status, reason and SMTP response code on every result, so verdicts can be audited
  • Greylisting deferrals retried with a backoff rather than written off as failures
  • Duplicates removed before processing, so you pay for unique addresses only
  • API, bulk CSV upload and CRM round trips with Brevo, HubSpot, Salesforce, Mailchimp and PlusVibe

Where Kickbox Excels

We believe in honest comparisons. Here is where Kickbox has advantages:

  • An established brand with a long history in email
  • A recognisable name that shows up on most shortlists
  • A broad set of adjacent developer and marketing tools

Is Mailthentic right for you?

Mailthentic is a strong fit if

  • Your domain reputation is a business asset and a bounce spike is a genuine incident, not an inconvenience.
  • You want to choose your own risk threshold using a confidence score rather than accepting someone else's definition of valid.
  • You send heavily to business domains, where catch-all configurations and Microsoft 365 dominate.
  • You want the SMTP response on the row so that a disputed verdict can be checked instead of argued about.
  • You want clean results written straight back to your CRM.

What that looks like in practice

Upload a CSV or call the API. Duplicates are removed first. Every unique address then runs through syntax validation, domain and MX resolution, disposable domain screening, role based flagging, catch-all detection and an SMTP probe where the receiving server will give a meaningful answer. Temporary deferrals are retried with a backoff. The export gives you valid, invalid, catch-all, risky and unknown, each with a reason, an SMTP code and a confidence score, with your original columns preserved so it drops straight into your sending tool or CRM.

When another tool may suit you better

If you need an email service provider, a transactional sending platform or a marketing suite, buy the tool that does that job. Mailthentic verifies, explains and hands back. And to be plain about the limits: no verifier can promise that every address it marks valid will still accept mail next month, because mailboxes fill, get disabled and get deleted. What we can promise is that we will not disguise an unconfirmable address as a confirmed one just to make your report look better.

Frequently asked questions

Is Mailthentic cheaper than Kickbox?

Pricing changes on both sides, so we will not quote theirs or ours here. Check their current pricing on their pricing page and ours on our pricing page. The structural difference is that we deduplicate before processing and bill unique addresses only, so the effective cost depends on how much duplication your list carries. Compare cost per unique address.

What is the confidence score for?

It lets you set your own risk threshold. Instead of a single valid or invalid label, you can decide to send to everything above a confidence level you choose and hold back the rest, which is particularly useful on catch-all domains.

Will verification guarantee zero bounces?

No honest verifier can promise that. Mailboxes fill up, get disabled or get deleted between the moment you verify and the moment you send, and catch-all servers accept everything regardless. What verification does is remove the known bad addresses and clearly label the ones nobody can confirm.

How do you handle Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 addresses?

Those providers answer 250 OK during an SMTP conversation even for addresses that do not exist, so an SMTP probe cannot confirm the mailbox. We say so on the row and give you a confidence score rather than calling it valid.

Do you have an API?

Yes, plus bulk CSV upload. Use the API for real time checks such as signup forms, and bulk upload for existing lists.

What happens to my contact data?

It is verified and returned. Our handling is GDPR aligned and we never sell, share or reuse your contact data.
