The question that decides everything: what counts as valid?

A positive response there proves the domain is reachable, not that the person is.
A verifier can respond to that in one of two ways. It can present those addresses as valid, which makes the summary look flattering, or it can tell you the truth: this is a catch-all, the mailbox cannot be confirmed, here is the confidence score, and here is the reasoning. Why does Mailthentic report catch-all instead of valid?
Because a catch-all server accepts every address, existing or not. No verifier can confirm an individual mailbox there, so calling it valid would be a guess presented as a fact. We report it as catch-all, give you the SMTP response and a confidence score, and let you decide whether to include those addresses in a send.
Do you charge for duplicate addresses?

What happens if a mail server temporarily defers my probe?
That is greylisting, and it shows up as a 421, 450 or 451 response. It is a temporary deferral, not a rejection. We retry with a backoff rather than marking a perfectly good address as a failure, and the response code is visible on the result row.
