DeBounce is an established, well known name in email verification, and plenty of teams have used it happily for years. If you have landed on this page, you are most likely doing what any careful buyer does before renewing or switching: looking at what else exists, and working out what you actually get for your money.

What actually matters when you compare verifiers
The first thing to understand is the limit of what any verifier can know. A catch-all domain, sometimes called accept-all, is configured to accept mail for every address at that domain. That means no verification service on earth can confirm an individual mailbox behind a catch-all. The same applies to Gmail and Google Workspace, and to Outlook and Microsoft 365: those providers return 250 OK during an SMTP conversation even for addresses that do not exist, so a positive response there does not prove the mailbox is real.
This matters because a verifier can quietly turn every one of those ambiguous addresses into a confident "valid" and produce a beautiful looking report. Your bounce rate then discovers the truth for you, at the worst possible moment.
How Mailthentic handles it
Mailthentic reports catch-all and ambiguous addresses as exactly that: catch-all or unknown. We do not inflate them into a valid to make our numbers look better. Where we cannot prove a mailbox exists, we say so, and we tell you why.
Every single row in a Mailthentic result carries four things: the status, the reason for that status, the raw SMTP response code we received, and a confidence score. You can audit any address in your list rather than trusting a coloured label.
Underneath that, we run a full detection stack: syntax checks, domain and MX record validation, disposable domain detection, catch-all detection, role based flagging for addresses like info@ and admin@, plus risky and invalid classification. Greylisting is handled properly, so a temporary 421, 450 or 451 deferral triggers a retry with backoff rather than being written off as a failure and throwing away a perfectly good contact.

- You want a verifier that will confidently mark every Gmail, Microsoft 365 and catch-all address as valid so the summary chart looks flattering. We will not do that, because it is not true.
- You are looking for a full outbound sales suite with prospecting databases, sequences and a dialer bolted on. Mailthentic is focused on doing verification properly.
How to compare fairly
Take a sample of a few hundred addresses from a real list, ideally one where you already know some outcomes. Run it through both tools. Then look past the headline percentages and ask three questions: how many addresses were labelled valid that sit on catch-all domains, how many results come with an explanation you can actually audit, and how many duplicates you were charged for. Is Mailthentic cheaper than DeBounce?
Pricing on both sides changes, so the fair answer is to check both directly: DeBounce publishes their plans on their own pricing page, and ours are on the Mailthentic pricing page. The thing worth factoring in is that we deduplicate your list before processing and only charge for unique addresses, so the effective cost depends heavily on how much repetition your list contains. A list assembled from several sources over a few years often has a lot more overlap than people expect.
Why does Mailthentic mark some addresses as catch-all instead of valid?
Because a catch-all, or accept-all, domain is configured to accept mail for every address at that domain, whether or not the mailbox exists. That means no verification service can confirm an individual mailbox behind one. We report it as catch-all or unknown, along with a confidence score, so you can decide how to treat it. Marking it valid would look better on a report and tell you something we cannot actually prove.
Can you verify Gmail and Microsoft 365 addresses?
We check them, and we are honest about the limits. Gmail, Google Workspace, Outlook and Microsoft 365 return 250 OK during an SMTP conversation even for addresses that do not exist, so the mailbox cannot be confirmed by SMTP alone. Mailthentic runs its full detection stack across syntax, domain, MX, disposable and role based signals, then reports the result with a confidence score rather than pretending to certainty it does not have.
What happens to addresses that are greylisted?
A 421, 450 or 451 response is a temporary deferral, not a rejection. Some tools treat that as a failure and you lose a perfectly good contact. Mailthentic retries with a backoff, so greylisting is handled the way the receiving mail server intends. The SMTP code we received is recorded on the row so you can see exactly what happened.
Do I have to change how I work to move from DeBounce?
No. You can upload a bulk CSV and your original columns come back untouched in the export, so any spreadsheet or import mapping you already have keeps working.
