Mailthentic vs XVerify
Real time and bulk verification with an auditable reason on every address
XVerify is an established email verification provider with a long standing presence among lead generation and performance marketing teams. If you are evaluating alternatives, the right approach is to look closely at what each tool reports and how much of it you can verify for yourself.
We will make no claims about their product. Their current pricing is published on their own site. What follows is what Mailthentic does.
The one thing that decides whether a verifier is honest
Verification has a hard limit. A catch-all domain, also called accept-all, accepts mail for every address at that domain, which means no verifier can confirm whether one specific mailbox behind it exists. Gmail and Google Workspace, and Outlook and Microsoft 365, behave in a related way: they return 250 OK during an SMTP conversation even for addresses that do not exist, so an accepting response is not proof of a mailbox.
Every verifier meets those addresses. The difference is what it does next. It can tell you they are unconfirmable, or it can quietly count them as valid and produce a report where the green bar looks reassuringly long.
Mailthentic tells you
Catch-all and unconfirmable addresses are reported as catch-all or unknown, with a confidence score. You get a clear separation between the part of your list that has been proven and the part that carries risk, which is exactly what you need if you are feeding leads into a paid funnel or a client campaign.
Every result explains itself. Each row carries the status, the reason for it, the raw SMTP response code returned by the receiving server, and a confidence score. That makes the output auditable, which matters a great deal when someone else is paying for the leads.
The detection stack covers syntax, domain and MX record checks, disposable domain detection, catch-all detection, role based flagging for addresses such as info@ and admin@, and risky and invalid classification. Greylisting is handled correctly: 421, 450 and 451 are temporary deferrals, so we retry with a backoff rather than throwing away a good address.
Real time and bulk
Use the API to verify addresses in real time as they arrive on a form, or upload a bulk CSV to clean an existing list, with your original columns preserved on export. CRM integrations cover Brevo, HubSpot, Salesforce, Mailchimp and PlusVibe, so you can import, verify and push clean results back. We deduplicate before processing, so you are charged for unique addresses only. Credits are pay as you go and never expire, or you can take a monthly plan. Data handling is GDPR aligned and we never sell, share or reuse your contact data.
What Mailthentic does
Exactly what you get, stated plainly. We do not fill in a column for XVerify, because their feature set is theirs to describe and it changes. Check their site and compare for yourself.

Comparing the pricing
Verification pricing changes often, so rather than quote a number that may already be out of date, here are both pricing pages. Check them side by side.
Mailthentic
Pay as you go with credits that never expire, or a monthly plan. Duplicates in your list are removed before processing, so you are not charged for them twice.

-
Every lead is auditable: status, reason, raw SMTP response code and confidence score on every row
-
Catch-all domains are labelled as unconfirmable instead of being rolled into the valid count
-
Real time API for form capture plus bulk CSV for list cleaning, from the same account
-
Deduplication before processing, so repeated addresses across sources never cost you twice
-
Greylisting retried with backoff, so a temporary deferral does not silently reject a good lead
-
GDPR aligned, with contact data that is never sold, shared or reused
Where XVerify Excels
We believe in honest comparisons. Here is where XVerify has advantages:
-
A long established brand in the lead validation market
-
A recognised option among performance marketing and lead generation teams
-
A broad set of adjacent data validation services
Is Mailthentic right for you?
A strong fit if
- You are validating leads at the point of capture and want a real time API decision you can explain later, complete with the SMTP response code behind it.
- Somebody else is paying for those leads, so an inflated valid count is not just embarrassing, it is a commercial problem. Honest catch-all reporting protects you.
- You send to business domains, where catch-all servers are common, and you need a clear picture of provable versus ambiguous.
- Your lead sources overlap and duplicates are routine, so you want to be charged for unique addresses only.
- You want the same tool to handle bulk list cleaning and real time capture, with results that come back in your original CSV columns.
- You work in Brevo, HubSpot, Salesforce, Mailchimp or PlusVibe and want the verified data pushed straight back into the CRM.
Not the right choice if
- You want the highest possible headline valid rate to show a client. We report what the receiving servers actually said, and sometimes that includes a large catch-all bucket.
- You need a broad suite of identity, phone and address validation services rather than a focused email verification tool.
Compare on your own leads
Take a real sample, run it through both, and then check the addresses marked valid. How many are on catch-all domains, or on Google and Microsoft infrastructure where a 250 OK proves nothing? Can you explain each verdict from what the tool gave you? How many duplicates were billed? Pricing changes on both sides, so read XVerify's current pricing on their site and ours on the Mailthentic pricing page, and compare the cost per unique address rather than the cost per uploaded row.
Frequently asked questions
Is Mailthentic cheaper than XVerify?
Pricing changes on both sides, so compare the two directly: their plans are on their own pricing page and ours are on the Mailthentic pricing page. What alters the real cost is duplicates. We deduplicate before processing and charge for unique addresses only, so the effective price depends on how much overlap your lead sources produce. Run a real sample through and compare cost per unique address.
Can I verify leads in real time on a form?
Yes. The API is built for exactly that, so you can validate an address at the point of capture and keep bad data out of the funnel entirely. The same account also handles bulk CSV uploads for cleaning lists you already hold, and CRM integrations for Brevo, HubSpot, Salesforce, Mailchimp and PlusVibe.
Why do some leads come back as catch-all instead of valid?
Because their domain accepts mail for every address, which means no verifier can confirm the individual mailbox. We report that as catch-all or unknown with a confidence score, so you can price the risk, route the lead differently, or hold it back. Counting it as valid would look better and mean less.
What about Gmail and Microsoft 365 leads?
Gmail, Google Workspace, Outlook and Microsoft 365 all return 250 OK during an SMTP conversation even for addresses that do not exist, so a mailbox on them cannot be confirmed by SMTP alone. We tell you that. Every other signal still runs, syntax, domain and MX, disposable detection, role based flagging and risk classification, and the result comes with a confidence score and a reason.
How do you avoid throwing away good addresses?
Greylisting is the usual culprit. A 421, 450 or 451 is a temporary deferral, not a rejection, so Mailthentic retries with a backoff rather than recording a failure. The raw SMTP code is shown on the row so you can always see what the receiving server actually said.
Is my lead data protected?
Yes. Mailthentic is GDPR aligned and we never sell, share or reuse your contact data. It is verified, returned to you, and not used for anything else.
